Benoît Jacquot - La Fille seule AKA A Single Girl (1995)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

Early one morning Valerie has to tell her unemployed boyfriend Remi that she is pregnant. She has decided to keep the child, but they argue whether they should break up or not. That same morning Valerie starts working in room service at a smart hotel. The film follows the routine of Valerie bringing breakfast to the guests, Valerie constantly trying to phone her mother, and Valerie's relations with the other staff.

Pretty enjoyable film if I say so myself.

Jean Rollin - La morte vivante aka The Living Dead Girl [Uncut] (1982)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

Thought of by some as the last truly great film of Jean Rollin's career, the 1982 feature La Morte Vivante (The Living Dead Girl) is a fascinating but flawed feature graced with two of the most unforgettable performances in all of Rollin's canon. A frustrating work brought to life by some of the most iconic imagery seen in a Rollin film, The Living Dead Girl is a simultaneously ferocious and poetic work deserving of its reputation as one of Rollin's most important films...

Maurice Tourneur - Cécile est Morte ! AKA Cecile is Dead (1944)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

In this, the second of the three Maigret films made by the German-run Continental Films during the Occupation, popular film star Albert Préjean reprises his role as the famed pipe-smoking detective, accompanied by his improbable side-kick Lucas. Although, again, the film fails to capture the atmosphere of the Georges Simenon novel on which it is based, it does offer a reasonably satisfactory alternative – a suspenseful and witty black comedy.

Jean Rollin - Vierges et vampires aka Requiem for a Vampire aka Caged Virgins (1971)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

Eloquent, expressive and altogether haunting, Jean Rollin’s fourth feature film,
1971’s Vierges et Vampires (Requiem for a Vampire) shows him as an artist totally in control of his own art and totally separate from anyone else in cinema before or since

Jean Rollin - La nuit des horloges aka The Night of the Clocks (2007)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

Jean Rollin's penultimate film, don't know why it hasn't been here, as it's an absolutely beautiful film. I used to think Jean Rollin's late films were weak. But, no, at least, this isn't!!
The plot (if there is any) revolves around the protagonist, supposedly the cousin of a recently deceased filmmaker called Michel Jean, following the book "Dreamflight" and discovering his world. (Watching this film now, one instantly thinks of Jean Rollin himself, and indeed, MIchel Jean is Jean Rollin himself). It's probably particularly interesting for Jean Rollin fans, as all those icons, motifs, and even many shots/sequences of his earlier films are juxtaposed in a poetic way to form this film. Characters are both real and imaginary...
I'd like to simply quote a seq of dialogue in the beginning of the film.

Jean Girault - Le Gendarme et les extra-terrestres AKA The Gendarme and the Creatures from Outer Space (1979

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

An entry in the French Gendarme series of quasi-slapstick comedies featuring bumbling police officers, this time by the St Tropez beaches and with low-budget aliens. Despite the beach the cheesecake factor is remarkably small but there's plenty of mistaken identities and mild-mannered hijinks.

Ralph Nelson - Once a Thief (1965)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg
Once a thief, always a thief. This is the sorry lot of Eddie (Alain Delon), an ex-convict who tries his best to go straight. He marries Kristine (Ann-Margret), who bears him a child. Seeking out a new start in San Francisco, Eddie is dogged by vengeful cop Vito (Van Heflin), who thinks that the ex-con shot him years earlier. Eddie is arrested by Vito for a crime committed by someone else. Though he is set free, he is unable to find work after the truth about his past is revealed. Kristine is forced to take a job in a strip joint (her costumes are frustratingly modest) to make ends meet, a fact that sends Eddie spiralling into a depression-and, ultimately one last caper, engineered by his brother (Jack Palance). The grim proceedings in Once a Thief were originally put down on paper by novelist Zekial Marko, who plays a small role in the screen version.

Jean-Charles Dudrumet - Pleins feux sur Stanislas AKA Killer Spy (1965)

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5333/imdbimage.jpg

This is the second film based on the character of Stanislas Dubois, a reluctant spy. The story begins with Stanislas getting a bad review for an autobiographical volume he has just published. Incensed, he goes off to track down the author to give him a black eye, and instead stumbles onto a ditzy blonde and a mortally wounded man who has the time to utter an enigmatic phrase, 'Thirteen coffins', before snuffing it. This entry in the series is a bit more slapdash than the first one, but it is still extremely entertaining (by 60s spy spoof standards) and contains some highly diverting fight scenes of the sort that became Marais's trademark at that period.

Claude Zidi - Profil bas AKA Low Profile (1993)

"After one of his superiors tries unsuccessfully to frame him, the formerly by-the-book honest cop Julien Segal (Patrick Bruel) turns to crime as the way to fight them back. Along the way he wins the partnership and love of the lovely Claire (Sandra Speichert), and cleverly makes life very uncomfortable indeed for his nefarious police supervisor Carre (Didier Bezace) and the supervisor's dope-dealing buddy Roche (Jean-Louis Tribes). It seems that Carre can't prosecute Julien for his crimes without coming under suspicion himself

Robinson et le Triporteur (1960)

Robinson et le Triporteur (1960)
Typical French movie of the late 1950's. I first saw this movie when it came out on TV, circa 1965. Seeing it again on DVD brought me back to memory lane.

Darry Cowl, like Fernandel, Bourvil and Louis De Funès has it's own style. The movie shows somebody madly in love that is ready to do anything to get his lady.

Comic situations that are not too funny, impossible situations and other idiotic scenario makes that movie not very good, but if like me, you liked Darry Cowl when you were a kid, it may be worth watching.
