Come September (1961)
Come September (1961)
Robert Talbot (Rock Hudson, proving his comedic talent) has a beautiful Italian villa he only uses during the month of September, which also fits his beautiful local girlfriend, Lisa (Gina Lollobrigida)for that same month a year. Lisa is so frustrated that she is preparing to marry an English gentlemen (Sidney Howard), but she reconsiders when Robert decides to fly in in July. What the business man does not know is that his butler, Maurice (Walter Slezak, who nearly steals the show), has been using the villa as a hotel. Talbot finds his place swarming with tourists, including a group of college girls. And then the college boys make a landing, headed by Tony (Bobby Darin) who immediately sets his sights on Sandy (Sandra Dee), while Talbot cunningly tries to keep these young fellows away from the girls, which leads to more funny and romantic complications.
This movie is fantastic all around. From the breathtakingly gorgeous Italian scenery, to the costumes, wonderful chemistry between the actors, and the music (with Darin crooning one of his own tunes, "Multplication" in a dance sequence), "Come September" is priceless. The electricity between Darin and Dee is so apparent, and this is a fitting tribute to both of them, and the fact that they married after filming wrapped makes the viewing of the film all the more enjoyable.

Tony, his swinging nephew, inherits the magazine and takes over.
Presently, the magazine is planning to expand and to do so they need
some capital. Tony's trying to arrange a loan through his friend.
He is then informed by the hotel detective of the hotel that his uncle died in,
that on the night of his death, a woman, wearing only a towel,
came out of his room, and ran away before the detective could catch up with her.
They suspect that the Colonel was "with" her on the night he died,
cause he was smiling when he died. Tony and two of his uncle's confidants
are worried that not only if the bank hears of this they will not get the loan
but the magazine wholesome image could be tarnished. So they ask the detective
to stay around so he could identify her. What they don't know is that the woman
is Katie Robbins, one of the magazine's researchers and that she entered the room
by "accident". When the detective identifies her and after having a few
misconceived conversations with her, they suspect that she is trying to extort them,
and she thinks that Tony's a nut.

Pote tin Kyriaki aka Never on Sunday (1960)
Illia is Piraeus's most popular person: an energetic prostitute, full of life and good humor.
Every day, she swims at the pier, entertaining the dock hands. Sundays she has an
open house with food, drink and song. Homer Thrace, an amateur philosopher from
Middletown, Conn., arrives in town to find out why Greece has fallen from ancient
greatness. He decides Illia is a symbol of that fall, so he sets out to study and to save
her. Unknown to Illia, he gets the money for the books and all else he gives her from Mr.
No Face, the local vice boss who wants Illia retired because her independence gives
other whores ideas. Whose spirit is stronger: Homer's classical ideal or Illia's?

Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (1951)
Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (1951)
Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (released in the U.S. without the "R.N.") is a 1951 naval adventure film. It was directed by Raoul Walsh and stars Gregory Peck, Virginia Mayo, and Robert Beatty. It was based upon three of C. S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower novels, The Happy Return (Beat to Quarters in the United States), A Ship of the Line, and Flying Colours. Forester is credited with the adaptation; as a result, the film is faithful to his novels and features an occasionally introspective tone unusual for an old-fashioned swashbuckler.
"In the year Eighteen Hundred and Seven, a small ship of the Royal Navy set sail from England for a secret destination. With five million French and Spanish soldiers poised on the Continent under Napolean, nothing could save England from invasion except her 300 ships. HMS Lydia was soon far beyond battle-charged Europe. Under the most secret of sealed orders, she sailed for southern waters, fought her way around the Horn..."
Peck's Horatio blows that elfish, pouting girly-boy's (Ioan Gruffudd's) late 1990s version of the famous midshipman right out of the water. Spla-boom!
